Residencies

2020

During July and August respectively, we are pleased to invite young German dance collective MNEME as well as Australian textile artist Anna Farago for two-week long residencies in Hållnäs. Because of the covid-19 pandemic, it is still uncertain if these artists will be able to travel.

14-16th August. Yoga retreat with our partners Unifying Yoga. Read more here.

17–23rd August. Region Uppsala´s theatre residency. This year the group Teater Aros will stay with us.  Read more about Teater Aros here.

1-14th September. Hållnäs-Druskininkai art residency exchange. Hållnäs Konstkoloni collaborates with DAR (Druskininkai Artists‘ Residence) on an art residency exchange project and invites Lithuanian and Swedish composers and sound artists to apply. We expect travel restrictions between Lithuania and Sweden to ease up before September. Changes to the residency exchange might occur, if there are unexpected developments. We are monitoring the covid-19 situation, but feel confident that the exchange will be possible in the early autumn. Read more here. The residency exchange is supported by Kulturenheten Region Uppsala and Lithuanian Culture Council.

2019

In July 2019, we hosted  AnneLee Vikner from Tornet Productions, as well as actors/writers Gustav Uddgård and Johan Stavring for a week-long residency, our second  theatre residency collaboration with Kulturenheten Uppsala. In August, Unifying Yoga came back for a retreat. In September, we hosted young Lithuanian composer Juta Pranulytė,  as a part of our first residency exchange with Lithuanian AiR DAR.  During the same time period, local artist Pavel Matveyev spent time in  Druskininkai, Lithuania. This two week residency exchange is supported by Region Uppsala, Lithuanian Culture Council and LATGA and will grow in 2020.

We welcome both individual artists and small groups of up to 8 people. Since April 2018, we are members of ResArtis. Visit our profile there for updated residency fees.

Our converted barn contains three rustic studio spaces.

The 45 m² movement studio features high ceilings and a sprung dance floor surfaced with a 3 mm natural rubber dance mat. The large barn doors can be opened on both sides of the space. Walls and ceiling are not insulated but there is an underfloor heating system for comfort on chilly days.

The upstairs art studio features wooden floors and lots of natural light. This space is insulated. There is an adjacent smaller workshop with high ceiling, concrete floor and separate balcony entrance.

Downstairs, there is a fully-functional kitchen and bathroom as well as a communal area for meals, fika and meetings, with a cosy fire place at the heart of the building. On the south side of the barn, guests can enjoy a sunny space suitable for both bbq’s and outdoor projects.

Our studio spaces, accommodation and outdoor spaces are continuously being improved.

Hållnäs konstkoloni is, in summertime, a home for artists in residence and occasional volunteers, as well as a family with two small children and a cat. Not all in the same house, but nearby! There are usually plenty of opportunities for social interaction,  tea breaks, meals and conversation – but always space to be on one’s own, too.

If you have ideas for a future art project, retreat or course you would like to run here, please email us at info@hallnaskonstkoloni.com or ring Åsa +46 0704 68 46 07.

At present, we do not receive any external funding for our new residency program. The visiting artist or group needs to provide funding themselves for travel, accommodation, studio hire and materials. Please see our ResArtis profile for updated residency fees. In some cases, we might be able to offer an artist a reduced fee, in exchange for part-time help with upkeep and gardening. Don’t hesitate to contact us with questions about this.
